An economic development endeavor for the county that has yet to be announced fully and is only known as “Project Peanut” moved a step further, Tuesday, Oct. 27.

The Board of Directors for Virginia’s Heartland Regional Industrial Facility Authority held a closed session to discuss the project. Following the session the group signed a resolution to assist in the development of property located within the Heartland Industrial Park off of Heartland Drive in the County of Charlotte.

According to documents, the new project will provide substantial employment.

In August, the Charlotte County Board of Supervisors (BOS) held a special called meeting and unanimously approved adopting a resolution to support a grant application related to “Project Peanut.”

County officials and those on the Board of Virginia’s Heartland have been tight-lipped on the project and have not released many details.

According to County Administrator Dan Witt, making any comments or releasing details could jeopardize pending grant applications, which could kill the project.

In the August BOS meeting, Witt did say that the project had been in the works for more than a year, and it was a wood product.

A copy of the signed BOS resolution states VASDC Property, LLC has expressed its intent and desire to the Charlotte County Board of Supervisors to locate its commercial, business, or industrial operations in the Heartland park.

Documents note that VASDC Property will require rail access.

The resolution further states VASDC intends to apply for Industrial Access Railroad Track Funds from the Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation in the amount of $385,000.

On Monday, Nov. 2, Witt said he hopes to be able to release information before the end of the year.
