All voting for the 2017 Virginia November General Election officially closed at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Charlotte County, according to the Virginia Department of Elections and the unofficial results are in.

Kay Pierantoni (391) topped incumbent Warren Weston (214) for the Wylliesburg/Red Oak District Supervisor Seat.

“Thank you for electing me your Supervisor to represent Wylliesburg/Red Oak,” said Pierantoni. “I will continue my work to bring transparency to the government in Charlotte County and hold the leaders accountable. I will not be silent about the needs and wishes of the Citizens.”

Local incumbent R.L. “Butch” Shook (544) ran unopposed and will once again fill the Keysville District board of supervisors seat.

Additionally, the Charlotte County School Board will see some new faces with the victory of Newcomer Teresa Dunaway (334) won the seat for Wylliesburg/Red Oak District School Board Member over newcomer Matthew W. Duffer (256).

“I would like to thank all the voters for their faith in me,” said Dunaway. “I appreciate all of the love and support that has been shown to me during this campaign. I will work hard for my district and try my best to accomplish what I have addressed all through this journey.”

Newcomer Robert M. “Bobby” Johnson (330) won for the Aspen/Phenix District School Board Member seat over incumbent Kenneth W. Redmond (310).

Returning with a win over Kenneth G. Howard (275) will be R.B. “Jay” George III (325), representing the Keysville District for the School Board.

In addition, two special elections for the Town of Drakes Branch and Town of Keysville Town Councils were held.

James K. Gregory (106) topped Clarence A. Hamlett (56) for the Drakes Branch seat and Scotty R. Jackson (165), who faced no opposition, landed the Keysville seat.

Charlotte County’s Voter Registrar Nan Lambert said, “it’s been a really good day for turnout.” It’s been moving right along.”

She said voters came out strong in all precincts and everything went well.

Unofficial results for write-in candidates Haywood Hamlet and Donna Fore for the Aspen/Phenix District Supervisor seat were unavailable at press time.

Previously, Hamlet said that he would run as a write-in candidate for the Aspen/Phenix District after failing to get enough signatures to appear on the ballot.

Fore said while she turned in enough signatures to appear on the ballot, the application period had come to a close and would not allow the registrar to process the application.
