Charlotte County government offices are closed Thursday, Feb. 18, due to the winter weather.

The Charlotte County Administration Office boardroom is open for citizens and can be used during regular business hours from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. for warming or charging of electronic devices.

According to County Administrator, Dan Witt preparations have been made for several volunteer fire departments to serve as overnight shelters if needed.

Phenix and Keysville Volunteer Fire Departments will be the only ones utilized for overnight shelters if needed due to shelter requirements and staffing needs.

Southern Baptist Convention of Virginia Disaster Relief will begin serving hot meals for citizens in need in the near future.

Witt said additional information is expected to be released later today when details are finalized.

All fire departments are open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. to dispense bulk water (bring your own containers), as daytime warming stations and for distribution of supplies such as bottled water, blankets, Gatorade, protein bars, and meals which serve two individuals.

Any citizen who needs meals delivered, please contact the Charlotte County Administration Office at (434) 542-5117.

Citizens are urged to sign up for Charlotte County’s Code Red emergency alert system, do so by visiting https://public.coderedweb.com/CNE/BF20B679813F.
