Strong winds that blew through Charlotte County on Saturday night, Jan. 11, left one Keysville business with major damage and an unknown reopening date.

According to Brandi Badeaux wife of Jason Badeaux, the owner of Badeaux’s Cajun Kitchen located at 150 Kings Highway in Keysville just after midnight, the roof of the building was blown off due to strong winds.
No injuries were reported, and no other damages in the county were reported as a result of the storm, according to the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Department.

“There were a few customers and employees in the building at the time,” said Badeaux. “ They said they  heard a noise, like a train, then a loud bang, which was the transformers blowing.”

Badeaux said in addition to the roof being blown off; there was interior water damage to the walls and ceiling and damage to signs and the HVAC system.

“We won’t know the total extent of the damages until the building is inspected,” said Badeaux. “We are working through the process with the insurance company, but have hopes of reopening. Right now, we are unsure when that would be.”

Badeaux’s has been open since May 2012.
