Preparation begins for new building

Site preparation began last week on the new municipal building and fire department for the Town of Drakes Branch.
The new building will be located across the street from the current municipal building that was heavily damaged by floodwaters during Tropical Storm Michael in October 2018.
At its Aug. 5 meeting, the Drakes Branch Town Council voted to build a new municipal building along with the fire department.
“I think the new addition will be great for the town and community,” said Drakes Branch Mayor Denise Pridgen.
The Town of Drakes Branch and its volunteer fire department were notified on Dec. 16 that they are the recipients of a USDA grant and loan that will help with building and equipment needs.
According to Pridgen the building completion date is undetermined.
