Scam phone calls on the rise

The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office is reminding citizens not to give out personal information to unknown callers.

According to a release, the sheriff’s office has received an increase in scam phone call complaints in the past month.

“These calls include IRS, vehicle warranty scams, lottery and/or sweepstakes and individuals stating they are law enforcement and a warrant is out for your arrest,” the release stated.

The release further stated that callers are requesting personal identification information, including Social Security numbers, date of birth, and bank account numbers over the phone.
