Shook elected vice chairman

In just over four minutes into a special called meeting, the members of the Charlotte County Board of Supervisors elected Bacon/Saxe District Supervisor Robert Shook, Jr. as the boards new vice chairman.
Thursday’s special called meeting was held in regard to the Cullen/Red House District seat left vacant by Dr. Nancy Carwile.
Carwile, who resigned her position effective May 16 severed as the boards vice chairman.
“I am happy and honored to be elected vice chairman and I look forward to the opportunity.” said Shook during a phone interview.
Phenix/Aspen District Supervisor Donna Fore, kicked off the meeting, nominating Supervisor Kay Pierantoni, who represents the Wylliesburg/Red Oak District. Pierantoni seconded the motion.
Fore’s motion ended with a tied 3 to 3 roll call with supervisors, Fore, Pierantoni and Chairman Garland “Butch” Hamlett voting yes. Supervisors Walker, Freeman and Shook cast no votes.
Following the tie vote, on a motion by Supervisor Royal Freeman to elect Shook as vice chairman and seconded by Supervisor Gary Walker the motion passed 4 to 2 with supervisors Walker, Freeman, Shook and Hamlett casting yes votes while supervisors Fore and Pierantoni voted no.
Shook has served three consecutive terms on the board of supervisors but as never served as the boards vice chairman.
