A youth baseball coach was charged with misdemeanor assault after allegedly hitting another coach from behind at the Dixie Youth Baseball field in Charlotte Court House.
Ken Trent Jr., assistant coach of a Drakes Branch Dixie under-10 baseball team, filed a misdemeanor assault charge against Alex Brown, coach of a Charlotte Court House Dixie under-8 baseball team, with the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office on Monday, June 13.
According to the General District Court Online Case Information System, the initial incident occurred on Tuesday, June 7 in Charlotte Court House. The warrant for Brown’s arrest was issued on June 10.
Within Trent’s complaint, he said Brown allegedly assaulted him from behind while on the phone, sending him to the ground before Brown was restrained. Brown allegedly said “that this isn’t over” after cursing Trent, according to the complaint.
“My children were present and witnessed (the) entire incident. They are terrified,” wrote Trent in the complaint. “I feel that my family could be in imminent danger from Mr. Brown and his family.”
The assault charge is a class one misdemeanor, falling under V.A. Code 18.2-57 regarding assault and battery, an offense punishable by up to one year in prison and $2,500 in fines.
After Brown was arraigned on June 16, the next hearing date is set for Sept. 22 at 9:30 a.m.
Neither Trent or Brown returned the Gazette’s phone calls before press time.
