The 2017 season came to an end for Randolph-Henry High School’s (R-H) varsity golf team in the Class 2 Region A tournament Sept. 26 when the Statesmen placed third out of 12 teams at Kinderton Country Club in Clarksville.

R-H produced a team score of 333 in the 18-hole event. Poquoson High School won with a score of 315, while Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School took second with a 327.

Under the Virginia High School League’s (VHSL) new alignment, only Poquoson advanced to the state tournament as a team.

Skylar Lacks led the Statesmen at regionals by shooting a 78. The score put him on the all-region golf team and qualified him to compete in the VHSL Class 2 state tournament Monday and Tuesday at Heritage Oaks Golf Course in Harrisonburg.

Also at regionals, R-H’s Evan Mason shot an 83, Logan Newcomb shot an 85, Eli Moore produced an 87, Larkin Jackson generated an 88 and Nathan Towery shot a 92.
