Several Lady Statesmen will be on their way to Blacksburg later in June, having clinched a spot in the state tennis championships. The doubles team of Emily Tharpe and Mary Scruggs picked up a win in the regional tournament on Tuesday, May 23. Tharpe and Scruggs won their final doubles match against a team from Poquoson High by a score of 10-7. 

This marks the third straight year Scruggs has won the regional doubles championship and the second year in a row she’s done it with Tharpe. The two girls will be representing the Lady Statesmen at the Virginia High School League Tennis State Championships, which will be held on the campus of Virginia Tech University.
