Explore your mind

As the months fly by and the seasons change, many are left pondering how time has moved so quickly.

During these times, many of us may be so caught up in the daily hustle and bustle of life that we forget to take the time and explore activities outside of our normal routines.

These activities do not have to be expensive or time-consuming, however, even just checking out a new band or introducing yourself to a different genre of music can be stimulating for the mind.

“The brain is the most complex part of the human body. This three-pound organ is the seat of intelligence, interpreter of the senses, initiator of body movement and controller of behavior,” according to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke.

Charlotte County is fortunate to be located near several colleges that provide abundant opportunities to check out musical concerts, theatre productions, lectures series and more.

Southside Virginia Community College in Keysville has previously hosted several festivals and events open to the public. Longwood University and Hampden- Sydney University in Farmville are just a short drive away and provide the same opportunities, including several national speakers and performers at times.

These activities can provide a relaxing experience, all while having the possibility of enriching your mind and learning a thing or two.

Sometimes in a busy world, it is good to slow down and appreciate the opportunities we have right here in our own backyard.

Attending local events cannot only be a short break away from the house and the daily rush of normal life, but it can provide enrichment for the entire area as a whole if support is garnered.

I hope more locals will take advantage of the exciting opportunities available and explore your mind. Who knows, you might find out you actually do enjoy an unexpected new pastime in the process.
