Herbert Clark MiltonHerbert Clark Milton, 94 of Brookneal, passed away Sunday, April 7, at home. He was the husband of Mary Owen Armistead Milton. 

Mr. Milton was born of humble beginnings, Aug. 12, 1929 on his Charlotte County family farm. He was the son of the late Alvin Clark Milton and the late Mary Neal Milton. Herbert professed Christ as his savior very early in life and lived out his calling of service in a variety of ways: as a member and elder of Roanoke Presbyterian Church, 4-H All Star, 1949 Charlotte County 100 Bushel Corn Contest winner, National 4-H Soil Conservation Records Scholarship winner, VPI Corp of Cadets, VPI Dairy judging team, 1st Lt. US Army, Extension Agent, board member Charlotte County Farm Bureau (past president) and Dairymen Inc. He was also a dedicated Hokie who enjoyed a career in the registered Holstein dairy business and was a naturally gifted musician and storyteller. His bride of 64 years, “Cookie” attributes the church and the 4-H program of his youth as the biggest influences in Herbert’s life. 

In addition to his wife, he is survived by, two daughters, Margaret Shaff (Greg) of Roanoke and Amy Price (Mike) of Brookneal; five grandchildren, Caroline Jones (Jeremy), Mary Anne Price, Lee Price (Keya), Spenser and Sarah Shaff and one great-grandchild, Elizabeth Jones. 

He was preceded in death by one grandchild, Landon Shaff; siblings, Byron, Garland and Harold Milton, Evelyn Kuykendall and Edna “Lace” Scott. 

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m., Wednesday, April 10, at Roanoke Presbyterian Church by the Rev. John Kidd and the Rev. Herndon Jeffreys. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home.
