Betty Carter Bratton, 90, died Jan. 29, at her home in Keysville. She was born on July 28, 1933 in Martinsville. The daughter of the late James Louis Carter, and Allie Philpott Carter, of Martinsville. Betty graduated from Martinsville High School, Class of 1952. After graduating from high school, Betty married her childhood sweetheart, Don Lee Bratton. They recently celebrated 69 years of marriage in December 2023.
Surviving in addition to her husband (Don); Betty has a sister, Sue Hodges, of Bassett; her sons, David Bratton, of Richmond (Margaret) and James Bratton, of Wake Forest, North Carolina (Chrissy); daughter, Susan Carson, of Rockville (Mark); five grandchildren, James Bratton, Matthew Bratton, Angela Poole, Jessie Carson and Emily Bratton; along with six great-grandchildren, Kameran, Jackson, Emma, Allie Sue, McCoy and Avery.
Betty lived in multiple states over the years, including Pennsylvania, Florida, Illinois, California, Texas and Virginia. She was a kind and loving friend to all who knew her, and was an adoring and doting grandmother to all of her grand and great-grandchildren. Betty for many years, served as a volunteer at the Southside Community Hospital in Farmville.
A service of remembrance will be held at 7 p.m., Monday, Feb. 5, at Browning-Duffer Funeral Home, in Keysville. To those who wish to remember Betty in a special way, contributions can be made in her memory to the Charlotte County Cancer Society.
