It’s almost time. The 2024 General Assembly Session opens on Wednesday, January 10th at noon. While we won’t get rolling for more than 72 hours, we can already see what House Democrats are planning to do.

Democratic overreach — we saw it in 2020 and 2021, and the upcoming session appears to be no different. Democrats are all in on letting dangerous felons out of prison early. They have already introduced bills to reduce penalties for gangs involved in organized shoplifting.

They’ve put in some of the most draconian anti-gun legislation in recent memory that would ban the sale of the most common, low power rifles — including the lowly Ruger 10/22. Other Democrats have introduced legislation that would block any firm that didn’t meet certain woke thresholds for their board of directors from Virginia’s Major Employment and Investment program, which brought firms like Lego to the Commonwealth.

Virtually all limits on abortion in Virginia would disappear under a Constitutional Amendment that Democrats plan to advance. There are dozens of other examples and thousands of more bills to be filed. Republicans will continue to do what we said we’d do, and what we’ve always done: work to lower the cost of living, make our schools better and our communities safer. Bad bills may get out of the House of Delegates, but they will not do so without Virginians knowing exactly how bad they are, and why common sense demands we oppose them.

When I ran my campaign for House District 50, I campaigned to fight for common-sense, conservative principles, and that’s just what I’m going to do in Richmond. Just because Democrats have lost sight of what is right and wrong in our country, does not mean Republicans have to budge. Republicans will fight to make Virginia the best place to live, worship, work, and raise your family.
