Students from multiple grades at Eureka Elementary took to the stage on Wednesday, Nov. 29 for the Eureka Spelling Bee. All total, 10 students, representing grades 1 through 5, competed in the event. The group included Briley Bailey, Asher Haskins, Dreyson Clark, Raeghan Hanks, Ava Bacon, Landon Routt, Travis Byrum, Ava Jones, Kali Street and Tanner Townsend.

Second grader Dreyson Clark won this year’s event. In the final round, Clark correctly spelled the word “dessert” to earn first place. Second place went to third grader Ava Bacon.

Now Clark and Bacon will advance to the Charlotte County Spelling Bee at Central Middle School. That’ll be held on Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2024.

“We wish them the best of luck,” said Brenda Haskins. She serves as lab manager at the school.

Eureka staff also recognized the event’s pronouncer, Jennifer Grey, and judges Linda Conkwright, Brenda Haskins, and Wendy Patterson.
