Betty Jane Hammock GravesBetty Jane Hammock Graves, of Keysville, passed on to Heaven on Nov. 4, at the age of 92. She was born on May 14, 1931, in the Virso community of Prince Edward County and the daughter of Robert and Gertrude Hammock. She was married to the late James Patrick “Jim” Graves Sr. 

She was a devoted member of Ash Camp Baptist Church, where she had been a Sunday school teacher and GA director along with serving on various committees. Her passion was gardening and propagating plants to share with her friends and family along with being a member of the Keysville Garden Club. 

Surviving are her son, James P. “Jay” Graves Jr. and wife Laura; grandchildren, Patrick (Kim) Lucado, Ellen (Jason) Matthews, Maria (Joey) Womack, Thomas Graves and Kathryn Graves and great-grandchildren, Jalyn Matthews, Gabriel Matthews, E.W. Lucado, Kobe Epps, Logan Epps, Sydney Holt, Skylar Solomon and Edie Womack. Also surviving are her sister, Virginia Cobb and brothers, Ralph (Brenda) Hammock and Richard (Penny) Hammock. 

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by an infant son, Don Clark Graves; daughter, Karen Lucado McKinney; brothers, Bobby Hammock, Buck Hammock, Ricky Hammock, Charles Hammock, Billy Hammock and Jene Hammock and sisters, Juanita Hammock and Bernice Hailey. 

The family received friends at Browning – Duffer Funeral Home, Keysville, on Tuesday, Nov. 7, 6-7:30 p.m. A service of remembrance was held Wednesday, Nov. 8, at 1 p.m. at Ash Camp Baptist Church in Keysville. Those who wish to make gifts in lieu of flowers are asked to consider making a donation to Ash Camp Baptist Church. 

The Browning-Duffer Funeral Home in Keysville is in charge of arrangements.
