The Church and Community Events calendar is published each Wednesday. Items must be submitted by 4:30 p.m. Monday for that Wednesday’s calendar. Email events to CommunityCalendar@ 


FALL FESTIVAL – Spring Creek Baptist Church, located at 918 Darlington Heights Road in Cullen, will hold a fall festival on Saturday, Oct. 28 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. There will be hot dogs and drinks served along with cotton candy and funnel cakes. A bounce house will be open, along with games for everyone and a train for children to ride. A new event added this year will be a maze for everyone to solve and then at 3:30 p.m., it’ll be time for trunk or treat. 


MUSICAL WORSHIP SERVICE — A musical worship service will be held Sunday, Oct. 29 at Union Grove Baptist Church, located at 2006 County Line Road in Keysville. The service begins at 11 a.m. with lunch following at noon. The special guests will be musical group Prodigal Son. 

GOSPEL CONCERT – The CEJ Gospel Singers will be in concert at St. Michael Baptist Church in Drakes Branch on Sunday, Oct. 29, beginning at 3 p.m. 


TRICK OR TREAT — The Town of Keysville will hold trick or treating from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. for children 12 and under on Tuesday, Oct. 31 in downtown. 


HOLIDAY BAZAAR — St. Theresa Church will hold a Holiday Bazaar at its Parish Center, located at 700 Buffalo Street in Farmville on Friday, Nov. 3 and Saturday, Nov. 4. The Friday event runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., while Saturday it’ll be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. 


BOOK AND AUTHOR EVENT — Tucker’s Store, located at 200 David Bruce Ave. in Charlotte Court House, will hold an event with Kathleen Grissom, author of “Crow Mary”. The event begins at 3 p.m. 


BEEKEEPERS MEETING — The Heart of Virginia Beekeepers will meet on Tuesday, Nov. 7, beginning at 6:30 p.m. This will be the annual Fun Honey-Tasting at the Prince Edward Extension Office, located at 100 Dominion Drive in Farmville. The meeting itself will begin at 7 p.m. Anyone who has bees or is interested in bees is welcome. WOMEN’S MINISTRY WORSHIP — A worship service with Confident Women Ministry is held every Sunday at 3 p.m. online via conference call. Services are led by Rev. Loretta Bailey and anyone is invited to call 1-657-390-7012 to take part. 

ST. MICHAEL BAPTIST CHURCH — St. Michael Baptist Church in Drakes Branch holds worship services at 11 a.m. the second and fourth Sundays of each month Masks are required. The Rev. James E. Goode is the pastor. 

SHILOH BAPTIST CHURCH — Shiloh Baptist Church, located at 125 Shiloh Church Road in Drakes Branch holds services every Sunday at 10 a.m. Rev. Dr. Horace B. Parham Jr. is the pastor. All are welcome. 

AMATEUR RADIO MEETING — The Charlotte County Amateur Radio Club meets the first Sunday of the month at 1426 Estes Road in Chase City. The meeting begins at 3 p.m. Everyone is welcome. For more information, contact Jason at (434) 944-9100. 

ST. ANDREWS BAPTIST CHURCH — St. Andrews Baptist Church in Cullen holds worship services at 11 a.m. the first and third Sundays. Sunday school begins at 9:45 a.m. the first, second, third and fourth Sundays. The Rev. Dr. Maurice Finney is the pastor. 

BEAUTIFUL PLAIN BAPTIST — Beautiful Plain Baptist Church holds services at 11 a.m. the second and fourth Sundays at Beautiful Plain Baptist Church, Charlotte Court House until further notice. 

HEBRON UNITED METHODIST — Hebron United Methodist Church in Saxe holds in-person services at 9:45 a.m. until further notice. Masks are required to attend. 

PHENIX UNITED METHODIST CHURCH — Phenix United Methodist Church, 225 Church St., in Phenix worship service is at 9 a.m. each Sunday morning. There will be no Sunday school. 

MT. CARMEL UNITED METHODIST CHURCH — Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church, 1101 Mt. Carmel Road, in Brookneal worship service is at 11 a.m. each Sunday morning. There will be no Sunday school.
