Believe it or not, the Historic Courthouse is 200 years old this year.

On Sunday, Oct. 8, from noon to 4 p.m., Charlotte County will celebrate the 200th birthday of its Historic Courthouse with a mini-festival on the courthouse green.

The free event will feature The Brown Brothers playing classic rock and country music, tours of the Historic Courthouse, and games and activities for children, including balloons, face painting, sidewalk chalk, and a mini-obstacle course. Food will be available for purchase. At 3:00 p.m. there will be a cake cutting and free cupcakes.

Designed by Thomas Jefferson and built in 1823, the Historic Courthouse is the last remaining Jefferson-designed courthouse in Virginia.

Court was held there until 2018 when the new court building was opened. Recently refurbished, the courthouse is now used for meetings and special events.

And everyone is invited to celebrate that milestone with an afternoon of music, games, history, and cupcakes!
