At the opening meeting for the current school year, Randolph-Henry High School Principal Erin Davis challenged each staff member to find his or her marigold amongst the staff and to be a marigold for others. Marigolds are well known as being a good companion plant in a garden as they protect against pests and harmful weeds. Likewise, a staff member is a marigold when they are a person who seeks to nurture and support those around them. Marigolds exude positivity and encouragement in the face of adversity. During the month of August, Randolph-Henry staff members were challenged to write a thank you note to someone else on staff who has been a marigold for them this year. These notes were dropped into a sealed box and one note was drawn. The author and recipient of that note were given a basket of back to school goodies to share. The gift basket was donated by Lebanon Church. All other notes at the end of the contest were delivered to the person whom they were written to. The winning note belonged to Maggie George and was written by her collaborating teacher, Sara Williams, both pictured here. “We know our staff is full of marigolds and we celebrate their commitment to uplifting one another,” Davis said.
