Mary “Sue” Tharpe Dunn, 76 of Keysville, passed away on July 28, after courageously fighting her battle with cancer.
She was the daughter of the late Richard Creston Tharpe Sr. and Bertha Hudson Tharpe of Drakes Branch. Sue was preceded in death by her two brothers, Richard “Pete” Tharpe Jr. and Carroll Lee Tharpe.
She was best known as the driver of #37 Charlotte County Public School Bus for close to 40 years. She loved her job and all her kids that rode her bus. She made sure she delivered each one to school and back home safely each day. She was always full of life. She loved to be around people and always kept a positive attitude.
Sue is survived by her son, Chuck and wife, Susan Dunn, of Keysville; daughter, Sheryl and husband, Kris Newcomb, of Drakes Branch; grandchildren, Brad and Chelle Dunn, Marc and Megan Hall and Matthew and Kelly Newcomb and great-grandchildren, Madileigh and Emerilynn Dunn. She is also survived by her side kick, best friend and sister-in-law, Gracie Tharpe of Drakes Branch; two great nephews she loved very much, Nick & TJ Tharpe and families; sisters-in-law, Betty Gryder of Keysville, Debbie Epperson and husband, Richard, of Farmville, Alice Dunn of Culpepper; a host of nieces and nephews; and special friend Beverly Fitz of Keysville.
A graveside service was held on Wednesday, Aug. 2, at 11 a.m., at Lebanon Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home of Sue Dunn. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Centra Hospice of Farmville, Barksdale Cancer Foundation, local fire departments and Charlotte County Rescue Squad.
The Browning-Duffer Funeral Home in Keysville is in charge of arrangements.
