Sometimes, you just need a helping hand to deal with health and wellness issues. When that hand is being offered for free, that’s even better. The Piedmont Health District has partnered with Piedmont Senior Resources (PSR) to hold a Health and Wellness Day. The event will take place on Wednesday, June 21 from 10am to 2pm at the Piedmont Senior Resources office, located at 1413 S. Main Street in Farmville.

As we mentioned, it’s going to be free and open to everyone, with information provided about a number of different programs. The Southside Virginia Family YMCA will educate on Silver Sneakers, an exercise class for seniors; Southern Dominion Health Services (SDHS) Family

Dentistry will have information about oral hygiene and teeth care; the Virginia Insurance Counseling and Assistance Program (VICAP) will have materials for Medicare Beneficiaries; Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) will educate on Medicare frauds and scams; New Era Healthcare will provide mobile podiatry services; the Lunenburg County Department of Social Services (DSS) will be providing general information.

Also, there will be vaccines available. Farmville Family Pharmacy will be offering bivalent COVID-19 vaccines, Novavax and adult immunizations to those eligible. PSR asks that you bring your ID card to this event. The Piedmont Medical Reserve Corps will be assisting in vaccination efforts.

“PSR was thrilled to receive the $168,000 grant from USAging that will support an effective partnership with the Piedmont Health District and provide additional services to our community that are so needed,” said Piedmont Senior Resources Executive Director Justine Young.

This effort is supported by the Administration for Community Living (ACL), U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) through USAging as part of a financial assistance award to USAging totaling $74,999,835 with 100 percent funding by ACL/HHS.
