Statesmen earn #3 seed in region 2A

On Tuesday, May 17, the Randolph-Henry (R-H) baseball team traveled to Crewe to face the Cougars of Nottoway County in a game where runs would come at premium.

Luke Skelton would take the mound and go the distance for the Statesmen pitching a complete seven innings with eight strikeouts. The game would remain scoreless until the top of the fourth inning when Jayden Gee would single followed up by two errors from Nottoway.

The Statesmen would score two runs off of one hit. The Cougars would answer back in the bottom of the fifth after two walks from Luke Skelton. John Fowlkes singles with two outs scoring both runs. Both teams would have opportunities to score but only the Statesmen would capitalize in the top of the seventh after Brayson Arrington walks and Andru Lee gets a base hit with two outs to score the game winning run. The Cougars would fail to score a run in the bottom of the seventh and the Statesmen would cling to a 3-2 victory on the road.

On Thursday, May 19, the Statesmen traveled to Farmville in their last regular season game to play the Eagles of Prince Edward County. It would be all Statesmen early as the Statesmen combined for 11 runs in the top of the first inning. Jett Algeier would take the mound for the Statesmen and pitch five innings giving up only one run with seven strikeouts. The Eagles would score in the bottom of the fourth with a single followed up by a triple from Caleb Camp. The Statesmen would take this contest with a final score of 11-1.

The Statesmen would finish the season with a 15-5 record and earning the #3 seed in region 2A.
