Lions working to bag hunger

The Charlotte Lions Club is inviting the community to participate in the Lions Bag Hunger food drive to benefit the Charlotte County Food Pantry.

From now until Tuesday, Feb. 15, you can drop off food items to assist the Charlotte County Department of Social Services in stocking their food pantry with canned and other packaged foods that will help families in need ensure they have nutritious meals this winter.

Items needed include: Canned pasta (Beefaroni, ABCs, ravioli, SpaghettiOs and others); Canned vegetables and fruits; Canned meats (tuna, chicken, etc.); boxed breakfast cereals; oatmeal; applesauce; jars of jelly; flour; sugar; corn meal; boxed salt and pepper; plastic containers of mustard, ketchup, mayonnaise; cans of soup; peanut butter; Pop Tarts; crackers (Nabs, Ritz, saltines); boxes of Mac & Cheese and other meals; rice.

Donations of foods and dollars can be delivered until close of business on Tuesday, Feb. 15 to Lion Richard Vaughan at Vaughan’s Auction and Realty, 214 King Street, Keysville. Hours are 8:30 am – 5 p.m. Monday-Thursday; 8:30 a.m. – Noon on Saturday.

The Charlotte Lions Club is a nonprofit service organization composed of members of the community dedicated to providing services to meet the Lions Club International global causes addressing hunger, diabetes awareness, vision and hearing conservation, childhood cancer and the environment. The club provides vision screenings to the public and recently screened over 1,100 students at Charlotte County schools. Members of the public in need of vision exams and eyeglasses are invited to contact Vice-President Lion Butch Shook at 434-736-8341.

Chartered in 1972, the Charlotte Lions Club meets the second and fourth Thursday of each month at Buddy’s Meeting Room, 121 King Street on the corner behind Pino’s in Keysville. Social time begins at 6:30 p.m. with supper and program following at 7 p.m.
