In their season opener the Randolph-Henry Varsity Statesmen football team defeated Surry County 16-8 on Friday, Sept. 17.
“It was a tough hard fought battle with everyone rising to the occasion,” said R-H Coach Ray Conner. “Our defense played a great game and made some big plays time after time.”
Sean Hatcher had two interceptions and Jaylen Mitter had one. The ground attack was led by Kanye Dailey, and Lazarus Moss rushing 98 and 97 yards respectively.
Coach Conner credits his defense for the way they swarm to the ball.
“Offensively we had 372 yards of total offense, with 298 of them on the ground,” Conner said.
