Former Randolph-Henry High School and University of Virginia football standout Joe Reed, at left, returns a kickoff Sunday, Sept. 20, in his first-ever home game as a member of the Los Angeles Chargers. Reed, who had one kickoff return in last week’s season opener, recorded four returns Sunday, gaining a total of 85 yards. His longest return was for 28 yards. The Chargers forced overtime against the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs before the visitors were ultimately able to leave with a narrow 23-20 victory. At right, Reed was able to reunite briefly with former Virginia Cavaliers teammate Juan Thornhill, who is from the Town of Altavista. The Chargers (1-1) host the Carolina Panthers (0-2) on Sunday, Sept. 27, at 4:05 p.m.
