Forestry and wildlife field tour set

One the state’s four Fall Forestry and Wildlife Bus Tours will be meeting in Halifax County this year.

All the necessary COVID-19 safety measures and protocols will be adhered to in order to make this event safe for everyone. Attendees will need to provide their own transportation to the tour site, and then will board one of two hay wagons for a wagon ride at this tour. This year’s Central District event will be held in Halifax County Friday, Oct. 2 at property of Ward Burton’s Wildlife Foundation – aka “The Cove”, with registration beginning at 8 a.m. and tour beginning promptly at 9 a.m.

Landowners and educators seeking to obtain research-based information in natural resources alongside the company of others with similar goals and interests will benefit from this field tour. The event is directed by Virginia Cooperative Extension and Virginia Tech, along with Virginia Department of Forestry and other partners in the forest industry and natural resources arena. Speakers will be on hand including state and private agencies, private landowners, and possibly industry personnel. Mike Roberts, guest and Outreach Coordinator for the Ward Burton Wildlife Foundation, will be making a special presentation following our lunch time. Mike is a naturalist, wildlife photographer, outdoor writer, sportsman, natural resource conservation educator and author of a regular column in Virginia Wildlife Magazine called “A Walk in the Woods.”

Lunch and transportation by wagon is provided for this tour at a cost is $25  per person  and $40 per couple. Personal drinks and refreshments are the responsibility of the participant and masks will be provided. Registration deadline is 10 days prior to the event. Seats are limited due to COVID restrictions.

The tour ends promptly by 4 p.m. or before. Tours take place rain or shine, and barring a change in COVID-19 status, tours will take place. If this program is canceled, a full refund will be made.
