Car strikes utility pole

The Red House Volunteer Fire Department assisted with a single-vehicle wreck Thursday, April 30 around 6 p.m. in the 9000 block of Wheelers Spring Road. According to the Virginia State Police (VSP), a 2006 Mercedes E350 was traveling north on Route 638 when it ran off the right side of the highway and struck a utility pole. The impact of the crash caused the vehicle to overturn. The driver, Felicia S. Burrell, 44, of Appomattox was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of serious injuries. She was wearing a seatbelt. Burrell was charged with reckless driving for failing to maintain control of the vehicle. The Appomattox County Rescue Squad, Appomattox County Sheriff’s Department and Virginia State Police also responded to the accident.
