Randolph-Henry High School’s varsity girls basketball team opened 2020 with a lopsided loss, dropping the team’s record to 1-8 overall, but the potential is there for a brighter second half to the season.

Evaluating his team’s 1-7 run during the 2019 portion of its schedule, Lady Statesmen Head Coach D.J. Jack said he is “overall not happy with the way we played. I know we can play better than we have been playing. We have to be more aggressive on defense and take care of the ball on offense, and keep our head up. At times we just gave up, stopped playing and would get so frustrated, causing turnover after turnover.”

However, there was a promising bright spot in 2019 in the form of a 36-35 overtime win against visiting Central Lunenburg High School on Dec. 13.

“I was really pleased with the girls this night,” Jack said, noting they played hard from start to finish, committed only 20 turnovers in 36 minutes, played great man-to-man defense and shot the ball well.
