The Central Middle School (CMS) girls basketball team participated in an important scrimmage at Bluestone before beginning its 2019 season.

“Though the game was just a scrimmage and played like game conditions, it is more of a learning and teaching situation for the teams and coaches,” Lady Bobcats Head Coach Sandy Mayhew said. “Here different types of offense and defense were tried under game-like situations, and we learned what will work and what we needed work on.”

The Lady Bobcats opened the regular season at Prince Edward.

The game remained close most of the way. CMS’ defense came alive late in the game to hold Prince Edward’s leading first-half scorer to zero points in the second half. Rebounding was dominated by the Lady Bobcats for the majority of the game, though they had some trouble with putbacks on the offensive side of things.

“Overall I was very pleased with both the scrimmage and the opening game,” Mayhew said. “We had very few turnovers during both games. The girls did an awesome job of moving the ball around to work for the open shots, and we looked inside to feed the post players.”
