Hard work and the grace of God seems to be the dominant secrets to long life per Geraldine Bailey, who celebrated her 100th birthday at her home in the Ontario/Rehoboth community on Saturday, Nov. 9. Her children, Mac and Bonnie, honored her with this celebration as they remember and appreciate integrity, honesty, wisdom, virtuousness and self-sacrificing as the core of her guidance. These life-satisfying traits help sustain anyone through difficult times and shape the lives of younger generations. Tobacco fields, gardening, yard work, cooking, cleaning, child care, extending a helping hand to the needy, church activities and much more consumed her busy days until retirement, yet these were all activities she enjoyed immensely. Hard times during the depression and hard work in the fields was a dominant theme with the neighbors. With tobacco being a prominent part of the Bailey family, Geraldine and now deceased husband, Frank, who were married 74 years, successfully grew tobacco together for over 45 years. She still enjoys updates on the growing process and would rather ride to look at the “crop” than any other outing. Geraldine also enjoys her friends and family and thanks everyone who made her 100th birthday special. She is indeed grateful and blessed.
