R-H falls to Knights

Randolph-Henry High School’s varsity football team had difficulty Friday, Oct. 18, against elite host Buckingham County High School, as the Knights pulled ahead early in the first half and went on to win 55-12 for homecoming.

The Statesmen are still looking for their first win this season, as Friday’s loss dropped them to 0-8.

Despite the defeat, Randolph-Henry standouts included junior quarterback Peter Jones, who had a team-high seven carries for 50 yards and two touchdowns. He also went 12-for- 32 passing for 97 yards and one interception.

Among the productive Statesmen receivers were sophomore Carl Anderson, with two catches for 33 yards; sophomore Chris Redd, with two catches for 28 yards; junior Tyshaundre Walton, with four catches for 17 yards; and junior Justen Staten, with two receptions for 11 yards.

Staten led the Randolph-Henry defense with eight tackles, including five solo and one for a loss.

On Friday, Oct. 25, at 7 p.m., the Statesmen host Cumberland County High School (0-7), the lone team they have beaten for the past two seasons.
