Director/Curator of the Drakes Branch Museum Deborah Kennedy recently found a bundle of tobacco that had fallen into the roadway. Kennedy said after she removed the tobacco from the roadway, she decided to string the tobacco to let is dry and use it for a display in the museum. Although the museum is currently closed due to water damage, repairs have been completed, and Kennedy is working on adding displays. According to Kennedy there are displays about the railroad, tobacco, town businesses, farm life, Burlington Mill, churches, schools, doctor’s offices, the Civil War, Boy Scouts, Black History, police and fire departments, the post office, and the red cross and work is currently being done to make a research room.
