Storm fund breakdown

Charlotte County, as well as the Town of Drakes Branch, the Town of Keysville and three volunteer fire departments received more than $90,000 from the Virginia Department of Emergency Management (VDEM) relating to tropical storms Florence and Michael last fall.
VDEM reported that on July 24 funds from the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Public Assistance (PA) Grant Program were provided for post-disaster recovery funds to reimburse local governments, state agencies, and private nonprofit organizations.
Charlotte County agencies, in total, received $93,359.
According to the announcement, $14.7 million in total was awarded. The commonwealth contributed more than $2 million of this funding.
“Expediting the federal funding to impacted public entities is a crucial component of the recovery process,” VDEM State Coordinator Jeff Stern said in the announcement.
Several volunteer fire departments received funding, including Bacon District Volunteer Fire Department, which received $4,082 relating to tropical storm Michael; Drakes Branch Volunteer Fire Department, which received $3,770 and Keysville Volunteer Fire Department, which received $6,183.
Charlotte County received $16,084 relating to tropical storm Michael. The Town of Drakes Branch received $49,309. The Town of Keysville received $13,931.
Regional organizations, including Central Virginia Electric Cooperative received $15,531 relating to tropical storm Florence and $30,584 relating to storm Michael. Southside Electric Cooperative received nearly $2 million, $1,901,628, relating to tropical storm Michael.
