The Charlotte County Sheriff’s office has received numerous calls from citizens about scam phone calls. Most of the calls are allegedly from the Social Security Office and Publishers Clearing House. The caller states that you owe them money and they have a warrant for your arrest. The caller then asks for personal information. Also, someone allegedly from Publishers Clearing House has been calling residents saying that they have won money. The caller then wants the resident to put the (winning) check in their account and send a processing fee back to the caller. Do not give any personal information over the phone and avoid sending money back to unknown people.
