The Charlotte County Majors all-star team saw its run come to a close Sunday afternoon with its second loss in the double- elimination 2019 Dixie Youth Baseball Major League District 5 Tournament in Sutherland.

Ultimately, the Charlotte Majors could not get past the Prince Edward-Farmville Youth Association (PEFYA) All-Stars, who were considered a favorite to win the district given their previous success in the Minor League age
division.

The Charlotte All-Stars fell 10-5 to Prince Edward-Farmville on Friday in their first game of the tourney, which was held at the Dinwiddie Sports Complex.

PEFYA jumped out to a 9-0 lead, but Charlotte rallied.

“We told the boys we’re better than we showed, and we knew we were going to score some runs, and they didn’t quit,” Charlotte Manager Gary Walker said. “A lot of teams get down like that and just quit, so you have to give
them a little credit for that.”

The manager said his first pitcher in the game “threw a no-hitter and gave up four runs.”

He was referring to Bryson Francisco. “He threw excellent,” Walker said. “He couldn’t have thrown
any better. And he’s hurt. He’s got a bad (hamstring), and he’s playing hurt, and he just did a great job.”

Walker said he thought his team could come out of the loser’s bracket to challenge PEFYA again in a rematch, and that is exactly what happened.

The Charlotte Majors eliminated the Dinwiddie National all-star team Saturday to set up a rematch Sunday with Prince Edward-Farmville.

The game was very similar to the first meeting. PEFYA jumped out to an 8-0 lead, but then Charlotte came charging back to make the score 8-7. Prince Edward-Farmville was able to pull away late for a 12-7 victory that eliminated the Charlotte County All-Stars.
