Pictured is Marshall Bailey, WWII veteran from Charlotte Court House, who attended a luncheon at Lynchburg Airport-Banker Hangar on June 5. The Virginia WWI and WWII Commemoration Commission and the National D-Day Memorial held the luncheon to honor WWII veterans. Veterans were invited to view the planes used in the ariel show at the National D-Day Memorial on June 6. Veterans had the opportunity to fly in the Boeing Stearman biplanes used to train all pilots during WWII. Bailey, a longtime Charlotte County agriculture educator, served in the U. S. Navy abroad the USS Dallas in the North Atlantic during WWII. At lunch Bailey sat with Capt. (Ret) James Ransom who is vice chairman of the National D-Day Memorial Foundation Board of Directors. The two Navy veterans regaled their lunch companions with stories of their exploits at sea. (Send pictures of the week with names and a brief description to PicOfTheWeek@TheCharlotteGazette.com).
