18TH ANNUAL CATFISH TOURNAMENT, sponsored by Halifax Volunteer Fire Department at Staunton River State Park Picnic Shelter # 2. Registration opens at 5:30 p.m. with a Captains meeting at 6:30 p.m. Fish from 7 p.m.-2 a.m. There will be T-shirts, 50/50 tickets, raffle prize tickets, food and drinks for sale. BENEFIT PROGRAM, 3 p.m. at Tabernacle Baptist Church located on U.S. Route 360, Drakes Branch, for Gracie Delgado, who is battling brain cancer. Everyone come out and support her.

DENIM, DIAMONDS AND PEARLS, 1-4 p.m. at the Chase City Rescue Building in Chase City. Fellowship, mini workshop, fashion show, door prizes, trivia and vendors. Wear your best denim, diamonds and pearls for a fun-filled Godly experience. Sponsored by Salem Baptist Church, Red Oak. Doors open at 12:30 p.m.

WOMEN’S DAY, 11 a.m. at Salem Baptist Church. Prayer and praise service starts at 10:45 a.m. Sister Jane Lyon, M. Division, will be the guest speaker and the Women’s Community Choir will render the music. All ladies wear white, your favorite hat and your pearls. Everyone is welcome to come out and worship through the word and songs. The Rev. Roger Lee Allen, pastor.

MAY 18

USED BOOK SALE, 9 a.m.-noon at Charlotte Court House library. Proceeds benefit all four Charlotte County libraries.

OBSTACLE CHALLENGE, to benefit White Bird Appaloosa Horse Rescue at 4004 Bethlehem Road, Charlotte Court House. This is a fun and low key event for horse and rider. For more information contact Beverly Renfro at (434) 607-7976.

SHILOH MISSIONARY SOCIETY’S WOMEN’S DAY, 2 p.m. Women of the Bible. Choose a person and notify Sister Arlene Dailey as soon as possible. Guest choir will be Voices of Christ and Shiloh Praise Dancers will perform. If not representing a woman of the Bible, wear white. All are welcome. Refreshments will be served. Shiloh Baptist Church, 125 Shiloh Church Road, Drakes Branch.

PASTOR’S 13TH ANNIVERSARY, 3 p.m. at St. Michael Baptist Church, Drakes Branch for their pastor, the Rev. James E. Goode. The Rev. Jimmie Dews, pastor of St. Luke Baptist Church in Brookneal will bring the anniversary message accompanied by his choir. Everyone is welcome. Dinner will be served.

PASTORS 52ND ANNIVERSARY, 3 p.m. at Rocky Branch Baptist Church, in celebration of the Rev. Dr. James E. Scott, Sr. anniversary.

CEMETERY CLEANUP, 10 a.m. sponsored by the Roanoke Prebyterian Church Cemetery Association, 444 Ridgeway Road, Brookneal. Meeting and light lunch will follow. Rain date, June 1. Bring a rake.
