A tornado warning is in effect for southeastern Charlotte County until 6:15 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

A tornado warning indicates that a tornado could be imminent, and that residents should immediately take cover.

Ready.gov recommends that in the event of a tornado, that people enter a sturdy building immediately, go to a safe room, basement or storm cellar without windows. Though not recommended, if outdoors, do not get under an overpass or bridge. A low, flat location is safer. Watch for debris from vehicles or other items.
