Frances Walker Fariss Epperson Sowell, 86, of Phenix passed away Wednesday, March 6, 2019 at Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Brookneal. She was the wife first to the late Smith Wesley Fariss, second to the late John Lee Epperson and third to Walter Thomas Sowell of Phenix.

Mrs. Sowell was born in Charlotte County, June 5, 1932, daughter of the late Dock Reed Walker and Marion Garrison Walker. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and a retired employee of Thomasville Furniture Co.

In addition to her husband Walter, she is survived by a daughter, Dr. Brenda F. Hancock-Cowlbeck of Aylett; two grandchildren, Sue Kloetzer (Scott) of Sartell, MN, Lyle Fariss Cowlbeck of Arlington; three great-grandchildren, Reese, Riley and Ashton; caregivers, Melissa Lloyd and Carma Sharp. She was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy W. and Willie Ramsey.

A funeral service was conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 10, at Bethel Baptist Church by the Rev. Allen Murphy, Rev Gary Simms and Dr. Rebecca S. Lowry with interment in the church cemetery. The family received friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
