‘Excited about the future’

The varsity softball team at Randolph-Henry High School is young this season, but improving on last season’s 2-17 finish is definitely part of the plan.
The 2019 Lady Statesmen are comprised of one senior, three juniors, four sophomores and four freshmen.
“Being very young, we really do not know what to expect, but the entire coaching staff is excited about the future of Lady Statesmen softball,” Head Coach Michael Adams said.
Adams takes over for last year’s head coach, D.J. Jack.
“We had three key starters graduated from last year’s team and one returning player that will be out because of injury,” Adams said.
Randolph-Henry’s list of returning players is fairly short, but those girls with varsity experience will be key.
“We are leaning on the leadership of our only senior and captain Cheyanne Newcomb,” Adams said. “Maci Fannon and Megan Davis are the only other two returning players, and we hope they can contribute to the offense like they did last year. Also, having coaches Amy Hamlett and Maggie Adams back is a huge help. Both of these coaches were former all-district players in the James River District and know what it takes to win.”
