Leonard named Superintendent of the Year

Charlotte County School Superintendent Dr. Nancy Leonard was recently named Region Eight Superintendent of the Year for 2019.
According to Elizabeth Jamerson, Human Resource Director for Cumberland County public schools, Dr. Leonard was chosen by and from a group of her peers that consists of the fellow school superintendents within Region Eight. Region Eight is made up of Amelia County, Appomattox County, Brunswick County, Buckingham County, Charlotte County, Cumberland County, Greensville County, Halifax County, Lunenburg County, Mecklenburg County, Nottoway County and Prince Edward County public schools.
A press release from Cumberland County school Superintendent Amy Griffin on behalf of her colleagues announced that, “Dr. Nancy Leonard, Superintendent of Charlotte County Public Schools, has been named Region 8 Superintendent of the Year for 2019. Dr. Leonard, who possesses a doctorate in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from Virginia Tech, has served as Superintendent for Charlotte County Public Schools since 2013. During her distinguished administrative career, she has also served as Superintendent of Virtual Virginia, a program of the Virginia Department of Education that serves over 12,000 students in Virginia and has been Executive Superintendent of the Governor’s School of Southside Virginia, where she focused on cultivating an academic program for gifted and highly motivated juniors and seniors.”
Dr. Leonard noted that she was proud of her collaboration efforts with the Southern Virginia Higher Education Center and with the Superintendents of Mecklenburg County Schools and Halifax County Schools to establish a Career Tech Academy in Halifax County. This Academy serves to assist
