Myrtie Broggin Skates, age 95 of Phenix died on January 12, 2019 at her residence. She was the daughter of the late Mr. Clem and Mrs. Fannie Broggin. She was married to the late Mr. Edward Winston Skates.

She was preceded in death by her children, Benjamin Skates, Jerry Skates, David Skates and Josephine Dews; sons-in-law, Wilbur Hancock, Carl Clark, Bobby Clark, Jerry Dews, and Howard Rose Sr.

She is survived by her children, Stanley Skates (Jeanette) of Concord, James Skates of Phenix, Minnie Clark of the home, Dora Rose of Brookneal, Mary Clark (Richard) of Phenix, Ruth Clark of Charlotte Court House and Lucille Hancock of Brookneal; daughter-in-law, Shirley Skates of Brookneal; thirty-seven grandchildren; seventy-one great grandchildren, thirty-one great-great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives. She is also survived by her granddaughter Christine Clark and great granddaughter Serina Clark who served as her caregivers.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, January 17, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at Nazareth Baptist Church in Phenix with interment in the church cemetery. Condolences may be expressed at www. JeffressFuneralHome.com.
