Weather update: winter storm warning issued, 2-8 inches possible

The National Weather Service (NWS) in Blacksburg issued a winter storm warning that includes Charlotte County Saturday morning, projecting total snow accumulations between 2-8 inches for the region in advance of Sunday’s winter storm.

The Office of the Governor declared a State of Emergency in Virginia Saturday morning.

According to the NWS, snow is expected to occur mainly after 9 a.m. The snow could be heavy at times. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent New snow accumulation of 3 to 7 inches possible during the day. Into Sunday night, snow with a possible mix of sleet is likely before 10 p.m., then a chance of snow between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m., then a chance of sleet after 4 a.m. Chance of precipitation is 60% percent. New snow and sleet accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.

Probabilistic snowfall rates, or estimations of what areas such as Drake’s Branch, Keysville, Phenix and Charlotte Court House, range anywhere from 5 inches to as high as 12 inches for some areas.
