‘Exceeded our expectations’

Randolph-Henry High School’s (R-H) varsity golf team ultimately placed third in the eight-team Class 2 Region A tournament Sept. 24 at Kinderton Country Club in Clarksville. The Statesmen shot a 331 to tie for second with Mary L. Walker Governor’s School and then lost narrowly in a playoff. The top two teams advanced to the Virginia High School League Class 2 state tournament. R-H’s top scorers in the regional event were senior Skylar Lacks, with an 80, senior Larkin Jackson, with an 81, and three 85s, hit by sophomores Jordan Colbert and Brenden Francisco and freshman Thomas Johnson. R-H finished the season with a 32-4 overall record. “I’m very proud of the team and how they performed this year,” Head Coach Kelly Powell said. “We were young, but they exceeded our expectations for the season.
