Randolph-Henry High School’s varsity golf team had its epic district win streak snapped this year, but the Statesmen kept up their tradition of winning district titles.

They shot a 159 on Tuesday at Briery Country Club to secure the regular season title, edging out Central Lunenburg High School, which generated a 161. Prince Edward County High School shot a 232.

Randolph-Henry’s lone loss this season came at the hands of Central Lunenburg, but the Statesmen rebounded to defeat the Chargers three times across the last week and a half.

On Thursday at Lunenburg Country Club, the Statesmen topped Central by one stroke, 165-166. Buckingham County High School was a distant third with a 203.

Senior Larkin Jackson led Randolph-Henry with a 39, while fellow senior Skylar Lacks hit a 41, as did Brenden Francisco. Thomas Johnson recorded a 44.

Back at Briery on Sept. 4, the Statesmen shot a 158, the Chargers produced a 164, and Liberty Christian Academy generated a 190.

It was Jordan Colbert who led Randolph-Henry in that match, shooting a 37. Jackson and Lacks each shot a 40, and Francisco shot a 41.

“I am very pleased with the progression of our team this year,” Statesmen Head Coach Kelly Powell said. “Our seniors are showing leadership and our young team is responding and playing well.”

Randolph-Henry will compete in the James River District tournament on Monday at Kinderton Country Club in Clarksville. The event begins at 9 a.m.
