Nancy Atkins Bailey

Nancy Atkins Bailey died on August 29, 2018. She is survived by her husband of 69 years Marshall Lee Bailey; her children Cynthia Vaughan Bailey and Marsha Bailey Lambert (Thomas); her sister Frances Atkins Mason; and her grandchildren Bailey Lambert Brooks (Zachary) and Paige Elizabeth Lambert. She was preceded in death by her parents Carrie Vaughan and James Monroe Atkins, and her brother James Emmett Atkins.

Nancy received a Bachelor of Science degree in education from Radford University in 1949 and a Master of Science degree from Longwood University in 1970. She worked for many years as an extension agent for the Virginia Cooperative Extension Service. Previously, she taught science and home economics in Charlotte County Public Schools and Amelia County Public Schools and coached the Phenix Elementary Eagles football team.

She was an active member of Mt. Tirzah Baptist Church in Charlotte Court House and served many terms as church clerk.

Nancy loved family, work, church, gardening and the Virginia Tech Hokies.

The family is grateful for wonderful caregivers and the enduring support of their friends in Charlotte County.

The family received friends at her home on Friday, August 31. A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 1, at Evergreen Cemetery, Evergreen Road, Charlotte Court House, Virginia.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Evergreen Cemetery Fund, c/o Mt. Tirzah Baptist Church, 174 Thomas Jefferson Highway, Charlotte Court House Virginia 23923, or a favorite charity.

The Browning-Duffer Funeral Home in Keysville served the family.
