Details set for R-H’s first Athletic Hall of Fame festivities

Details have been established for Randolph- Henry High School’s inaugural Athletic Hall of Fame induction festivities, conveyed through a recent school athletic department press release.

The first induction class includes 15 individuals, and three state championship teams will also be honored.

Festivities will take place Oct. 19-20.

School officials in the release noted that inductees will have a social time together Friday, Oct. 19, at 6 p.m. inside Bankston Field prior to the varsity football game against visiting Goochland High School. Recognition of the inductees will occur prior to kickoff on the football field.

The induction ceremony itself will take place Saturday, Oct. 20, beginning at 11 a.m. at Central Middle School, the release stated. The ceremony will be preceded by a catered brunch.

The release cited that tickets are for sale in the Randolph-Henry High School main office, and ticket sales will end Oct. 12.

“Space is limited for this special occasion, and we anticipate a sellout,” officials said in the release. “Secure your tickets now.”

Individuals set to be inducted include Baseball Coach Richard Bankston, Softball/ Basketball/Tennis Coach Deborah Laine, Golf/Basketball/Softball/ Baseball/Football Coach Kelly Powell and the following athletes: Burl Clements, Class of 1958; Larry Dunn, Class of 1963; Mary Dunlap, Class of 1992; William Elliott, Class of 1959; George Gaines, Class of 1980; Eugene Gryder, Class of 1959; Michael Haskins, Class of 1982; Stacey Lee, Class of 1985; Herbert Moss, Class of 1968; Freddie Stovall, Class of 1986; Monique Williams, Class of 2003; and Barbara Wilmoth, Class of 1957.

The Statesmen state championship teams being honored include the 2005 varsity golf team and the 2005 and 2002 varsity baseball teams.
