The Charlotte County 13U All-Star baseball team was eliminated from the 2018 Dixie Boys Jr. 13U World Series in Bossier City, Louisiana, over the weekend after two games, but it still left the team at .500 for the summer, and it did nothing to rob the squad of what it has gained.

“What I took away from this experience is that the boys, coaches and family members represented Virginia with great sportsmanship, dignity and respect for the game,” Charlotte 13U Manager Trent Baker said. “The results were not what we wanted, but is that the only reason we play the game? No, and if it is then it is time to hang up the cleats.”

Charlotte fell 13-3 to Florida and 11-1 to Louisiana.

“We will always be known as the 2018 Dixie Boys Jr 13U State Champions,” Baker said. “Thanks to all who sponsored us during this experience. We could not have done it without you all.”

He expressed anticipation for 2019 and a hope to see increased participation.

“All players 13-15 years of age from Prince Edward, Charlotte and Mecklenburg counties come join us next year,” Baker said. “Let’s build this league into something great for all to enjoy. We had four teams within the league this year, and we would love to double that number.”
