The Charlotte County Major League All-Star team made its county proud Wednesday night, along with all of those who have helped establish the county’s powerful baseball tradition, like the late Lealon Vassar.

No doubt was left who the champion was of the 2018 Dixie Youth Baseball Majors All-Star District 5 Tournament on Wednesday as Charlotte County pulled away early and then maintained and built on its lead, defeating the Crewe-Burkeville All-Stars 19-5 in four innings at Lenhart Field in Victoria.

Charlotte County opened its run in the tournament with a 4-2 loss to the host Lunenburg County Youth Baseball League All-Stars in a game that started Friday night and finished Saturday afternoon due to inclement weather.

After that, the Charlotte County boys defeated the Blackstone All-Star team 17-4 on Sunday, edged Lunenburg 6-5 in a rematch Monday and then routed Lunenburg in a third showdown Tuesday, 15-5, a win that secured the Charlotte County Majors All-Stars a state tournament berth for the first time since 2013.

Charlotte County begins play in the state tournament Friday, July 6, in Buckingham.
