Statesmen improve to 7-3 on diamond

Randolph-Henry High School’s varsity baseball team entered Tuesday’s game at Cumberland County High School on a three-game winning streak that had given it a 7-3 record.
The Statesmen beat visiting Prince Edward County High School 10-3 on Monday.
R-H routed visiting Buckingham County High School 11-1 on Thursday.
Senior Eli Moore pitched the Statesmen to victory, surrendering one run on four hits over five innings. He threw four strikeouts and allowed no walks.
As a team, R-H registered 11 hits on offense. Senior Carter Strickland, junior Skylar Lacks and sophomore Matthew Harding all managed multiple hits. Lacks and Strickland hit three apiece to lead the team.
The team tore up the base paths, as two players stole at least two bases. Senior Jordan Jones had two stolen bases.
On April 10, the Statesmen edged host Goochland High School 3-2 after eight innings.
The game was tied at 2-2 with R-H batting in the top of the eighth inning when Harding singled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run.
Lacks was the winning pitcher for the Statesmen, allowing one run on two hits over three innings and striking out two. Strickland started the game, lasting five innings and allowing three hits and one run while throwing five strikeouts.
Freshman Tyler Case went 3-for-4 at the plate.
R-H hosts Bluestone High School on Thursday at 6 p.m.
